Dr. Yervant Zorian visits Armenian College & Philanthropic Academy of Kolkata, India 12/12/2019

On December 12, 2019, AVC Founding President Dr. Yervant Zorian paid a courtesy visit to the Armenian College and Philanthropic Academy of Kolkata, India, where he was welcomed by Very Rev. Father Movses Sargsyan, the Armenian Church warden Mr. Sunil Sobti and Mr. Nver Sargsyan. Together they discussed the Armenian presence in India and cooperation opportunities between AVC online education platform and the Armenian College.

Within the framework of the visit, Dr. Zorian had a meeting with senior students of the Armenian College and made a tour in its premises. He expressed his gratitude for the impressive impact that the College has on protecting the Armenian identity and marked tangible positive changes at the ACPA in comparison with his last visit in 2005.

Established in 1821 in Calcutta, the Armenian College and Philanthropic Academy is one of the oldest educational institutions in the Diaspora and the oldest functioning one outside Armenia. For almost two centuries, it has consistently played an important role in the preservation of Armenian culture in the region.

On the verge of the ACPA’s 200th anniversary, Dr. Zorian highlighted the importance of providing high-quality Armenian education and encouraged the school to benefit from the AVC e-learning programs to keep abreast of the times.

On February 21, during the AVC live event dedicated to the International Mother Language Day, the ACPA staff shared their experience in preserving the Armenian language in Diaspora.
