A Rewarding Collaboration: AVC and Armenian Community of Rostov-on-Don
07/25/2016
Year 2016 marks the five years of fruitful collaboration between AVC and the Armenian Community Center of Rostov-on-Don. The seeds of cooperation were planted back in 2011 with the opening of an AVC lab at the Community Center in Rostov-on-Don. Thirteen students were enrolled in the first class. Since then, due to the permanent support of Nakhichevan-on-Don Armenian community leader Harutyun Surmalyan, Executive Director Sergey Sayadov and dedicated hybrid teacher Armine Vardanyan, the program has grown, and the number of participants has reached 250. Students find AVC as an extremely useful and much needed tool for their connecting with their heritage. Sergey Tamrazyan, who completed the set of Eastern Armenian Language courses and received a diploma, states: “The AVC Diploma is an additional stimulus for me, however, the knowledge of the mother tongue is the most important thing. It is my duty to learn the language of my ancestors and parents. We have to think about the future. If Armenians do not speak Armenian, who will? ”
The AVC Hybrid Education Program has been able to attract Russian-speaking students with its multiple innovative features, and most importantly, through the series of social events and virtual tours. These online activities including tours, games and contests have made socialization with other Russian-Armenian communities possible thus greatly supplementing the core education program.
